The Hayward Police Department Records Bureau serves as the custodian of the Police Department records.

 

The Records Bureau coordinates the department’s records retention program and is responsible for compiling, maintaining, and disseminating copies of department records concerning crimes, arrests, pawned articles, alarms, traffic, property, firearms, securities, vehicles, boats and missing persons to law enforcement agencies, authorized outside agencies and community members.

A Dispatcher is frequently the first point of contact that a member of the public will have when requesting assistance from City of Hayward.

 

The information gathered by the dispatcher during this contact is critical to a positive outcome. Our dispatchers are trained to handle a variety of call types. They must remain calm in the face of disaster, instill calm in the reporting person, get as much information as possible from the caller to assist responding units, and multi-task the operation of telephone, radio, and computer while receiving and delivering critical response information. Our Communications Center is responsible for dispatching both Police and Fire services. The Communication Center consists of 6 stations with each dispatcher assigned to a specific job.

 

When contacting the Hayward Communication Center, please be prepared to provide as much information about the assistance requested as possible. Expect to be asked your location, the location of the incident, the nature of the incident, a description of involved vehicles, buildings, or people, and the direction of travel of any fleeing suspects. Taking a few moments to provide this critical information to the dispatcher at the onset of a call will allow for a more efficient and effective response by emergency service providers.

We are dedicated to improving the lives of all the animals within the City, but especially the sick/homeless pets that come into our care.

 

Hayward Animal Services provides animal field and shelter services for the City of Hayward. The Hayward Animal Shelter is open for adoptions, turning in stray animals, recovering lost pets and other services.

 

Hayward Animal Shelter takes in stray and owner surrendered animals within the City of Hayward. We always have dogs, cats, and rabbits available for adoption and occasionally other small animals as well. Animals listed on Petfinder.com are for adoption. If you are missing an animal please visit the shelter in person to fill out a lost pet report.

 

We are dedicated to improving the lives of all animals during their stay at the shelter and helping them improve their chances of getting adopted.

Hayward Detention Center

 

Hayward Police Detention Facility is a Board of Corrections certified Type I jail. It operates 24 hours per day, housing up to 30 prisoners.

 

The facility processes all arrests for the city of Hayward and other agencies by contract, registrant processing and public fingerprinting, but not immigration finger-printing.

The Property & Evidence Unit is a warehousing operation that tracks, stores, and preserves evidence collected at crime scenes by investigators in the field.

 

It also houses for safekeeping all property seized, found, or otherwise turned in to police personnel until the owner can be identified, notified, or cleared for the property’s return. Property seized as evidence or collected for safekeeping may be released to the owner once all legal reasons for keeping the items are resolved.
